The NASCAR Cup Series will drive on a Naval base for the first time in the Anduril 250 on June 21 at the Naval Base Coronado street course near San Diego. The setting is unique to anything NASCAR has ever done, with the 3.4-mile course snaking around the Naval base campus and along the San Diego bay shoreline. He wins by 10.3 seconds over teammate Bubba Wallace. "That's one! Heim Time!" his team yells on the radio. "(Expletive) crazy, man," Heim says through tears on the radio. Corey Heim leads Bubba Wallace by 9.8 seconds at the white flag. "No pressure," Heim's team tells him. Reddick comes down pit road and will finish outside the top-20. Bubba Wallace is second ahead of Kyle Larson. Tyler Reddick has a left-front tire go down through turns 4 and 5. Corey Heim is crossing his fingers to reach the white flag! Tyler Reddick misses the preferred line in turn 2, and Corey Heim takes advantage. The two 23XI drivers run side-by-side for a couple turns, and Heim drives away after the two make contact. Wow! Lap 70: Bubba Wallace fading from top 2Bubba Wallace has faded to 6 seconds back behind leader Tyler Reddick and second-place Corey Heim. Reddick's lead over Heim remains about 0.7 seconds. 23XI Racing is running 1st (Reddick), 2nd (Heim), 3rd (Wallace) and 5th (Herbst) with Kyle Larson in 5th. Corey Heim is keeping within range of Tyler Reddick with 10 to go. Tyler Reddick to the lead! Carson Hocevar spins off of Corey Heim's bumperTyler Reddick takes advantage of a Carson Hocevar slip-up to take the lead. A couple turns later, Hocevar spins off of Corey Heim's bumper as Heim jumps to the gas through a chicane. Wow. Chris Buescher, Zane Smith and Denny Hamlin are among those who pit, so Carson Hocevar leads the field to green. Tyler Reddick moves to 2nd, and Corey Heim jumps to 3rd. Bubba Wallace is now attacking Kyle Larson for 4th. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. has a terminal issue and exits at turn 2, but lays a lot of fluid. Caution is out. Several cars made a stop right before the yellow, including Carson Hocevar who blends in ahead of Kyle Larson. Kyle Larson and Corey Heim pit and slot in behind Chris Buescher and Zane Smith. This could, incredibly, be a four-car battle between Buescher, Smith, Larson and Heim. Kyle Larson continues to lead, but he still needs to pit. Corey Heim is in 2nd and closing on Larson. Meanwhile, Chris Buescher is the best-running driver that has already stopped. Ryan Blaney is 18th, but well back of Zane Smith and Buescher Kyle Larson drives around Ryan Blaney for the lead. There could be some pit stops soon. Corey Heim is up to 4th, while Ryan Preece has sunk to 22nd. Lap 48: A lot going on at the momentAmong the things going on: William Byron pits from 6th with a possible issue. The team is looking below the right-front. Chris Buescher jumps out to the lead as Ryan Blaney takes 2nd. Ryan Preece gets shuffled back to 8th. Kevin Magnussen spins, then gets back going but loses many spots. Ty Dillon has lost two laps; the No. 10 had the hood up during a recent caution. Brad Keselowski also had the hood up but was able to stay on the lead lap. Lap 43: Chris Buescher to the leadChris Buescher takes the lead from Ryan Preece on the restart, with Ryan Blaney in 3rd. Deep in the field, Josh Berry spins and gets hit by Cole Custer. Caution is out from debris after the collision in turn 3. Big stage points effort today for Ryan Preece, who wins Stage 2 after passing Riley Herbst coming to 1 to go. Pit stops ahead of the end of the stageMany come in for a pit stop ahead of the Stage 2 end at Lap 40. Kyle Larson pits ahead of two laps to go before pit road closes. Tyler Reddick spins, keeps going and pits. Noah Gragson does the same thing, but he has right-front damage and a possible toe link issue. Riley Herbst leads the field to the green flag and gets a good restart. Zane Smith makes a move into turn 2 and makes a pass for the lead. Kyle Larson takes 2nd from Herbst in turn 3. Also: Bubba Wallace got the free pass on the previous caution and is on the lead lap. SVG and Connor Zilisch have been checked and released from the infield care center. This will be a big hit for SVG in the points standings and further puts emphasis on next week's race at Sonoma. Amazon Prime plays a clip of Austin Hill's radio; Hill said he locked it up through turn 1. The visible damage doesn't look quite as severe as yesterday's O'Reilly crash at nearly the same spot, but the red flag is out anyway for wall repairs at turn 1. 3-wide battle for lead on the restart ends in big crash, ends day for Zilisch, SVGAustin Hill, Shane van Gisbergen and Connor Zilisch go three-wide into turn 1 and crash into the outside wall. SVG checked up, but Austin Hill missed the corner and washed Zilisch into the wall. SVG had nowhere to go. Several other cars involved. Ryan Blaney, Chase Briscoe, John Hunter Nemechek and Ty Gibbs are involved. Michael McDowell spun around, and a few others got some minor damage. Zilisch is done for the day, and is in discomfort as he exits the car. SVG drives back to pit road but has major damage. Same for Hill. Brent Crews is smoking and slows to a stop toward the second half of the track. The team believes it's a gearbox issue. The car won't restart, and he'll need help to get back to pit road and the garage area. Connor Zilisch's lead is 4.2 seconds ahead of Ryan Preece. Shane van Gisbergen is up to 4th, but 13.6 seconds back after the earlier spin by Chris Buescher (who is now 5th). Chris Buescher tries to make a block at a speedy part of the track and it is way too late to avoid Shane van Gisbergen. Buescher spins around, and gets back going. No caution. The two lose a few spots after running in the top 5; Riley Herbst was able to speed around the two and take 4th. Austin Hill is now 3rd. Lap 23: Multiple pit strategies in play as Connor Zilisch takes the leadConnor Zilisch wrestles the lead away from Ryan Preece on the restart after Preece stayed out while most of the others from the Stage 1 top 10 made a stop. Ross Chastain moves to 3rd. Brent Crews restarted inside the top 10 but loses several spots. Bubba Wallace loses a wheel shortly after making a pit stop. It's the right-front tire, and it comes off in turn 9. Wallace rides back to pit road and is not happy. That'll curb his positive work in Stage 1. Wallace is being held for two laps for the lost wheel, and the No. 23 team will likely lose a couple crew members next week to suspension. The No. 23 team will clean up some splitter damage after running a half-lap on three tires. Shane van Gisbergen is told to pit next time by, and SVG asked his team a couple times if they were sure because the tires were working OK and stage points were to be had. But for fuel, he was going to need to pit some time soon. Ryan Blaney only needs a full lap to go from 8th to 1st with newer tires. Ryan Preece is trying to do the same, from 10th to 3rd. Preece makes contact with SVG in making the pass for 2nd, but SVG remakes the pass with a nudge of his own. He was not happy with Preece trying to use him up with a tire advantage. Shane van Gisbergen gets a jump on the restart and works through unencumbered in turns 1-3. The top seven cars have not made a pit stop. Ryan Blaney is the first car with newer tires. Brent Crews in, Christopher Bell out of No. 20Christopher Bell exits from the No. 20 Toyota, and the team will get the car prepared inside for Brent Crews. The team believes it can do this without losing a lap, and they'll have about 5-6 minutes to do so. They get it complete before the field can lap, so Crews will be on the lead lap (but at the tail end of the field with the stop under a closed pit road) for the restart. Ricky Stenhouse Jr.'s No. 47 slows to stop in the middle of the track. Caution is out. Christopher Bell will pit now and make the driver change. Ryan Blaney pits from the lead, and Bubba Wallace holds the lead by a couple car lengths ahead of SVG. Blaney comes out in 10th and will be in a good spot at the end of the stage. Bubba Wallace makes the move around Shane van Gisbergen ahead of the turn 16 chicane for 2nd. Wallace is looking very good so far. It'll be interesting to see how drivers and teams will judge the pit strategy as some pit (Tyler Reddick, Chase Elliott). SVG, Ryan Preece and Wallace need the guaranteed points, but have to weigh the overall race strategy. Jimmie Johnson locks up the brakes and collides into the tire barrier at the chicane near turn 16. He gets back going but has damage on the left front. He makes a pit stop and won't go a lap down. The race remains green. Shane van Gisbergen is back to 3rd now after Ryan Preece made the pass for P2. "I'm thinking about our number and saving for Plan A," SVG tells his team. The best compliment about this track is that there are many spots where drivers can battle for position. That's not always been the case at the recently new street/road courses on the schedule. Shane van Gisbergen is not pulling away, keeping the pace a little slower than you'd expect from him. Ryan Blaney made a pass for a turn before SVG reclaimed the lead going into turn 2. "No rears already," SVG told his team, talking about his tires. Behind them, Michael McDowell is +5 since the start and in 4th, while Kyle Larson is +6 in 8th. Austin Dillon spins in turn 9 and finally gets going after a minute or so. Contact from AJ Allmendinger sent Dillon around. Dillon had some choice words for Allmendinger on the radio. Dillon runs last, about 50 seconds behind the next car in the running order. Green flag at Naval Base Coronado! Shane van Gisbergen gets a good jump by a couple car-lengths through the first couple corners. The field works OK through the first few corners. The Navy Southwest Ceremonial Band has completed the national anthem, and it was very well done. Command upcoming, and then a pace lap or two before the green flag. Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce are among those at today's race. Jason Kelce is wearing Hendrick Motorsports gear after he worked on Corey Day's O'Reilly Auto Parts Series pit crew at Talladega. It is a massive crowd at Naval Base Coronado, including many military members. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth will wave the green flag. Cars to the rearTyler Reddick, Erik Jones and Christopher Bell will move to the rear of the field. (Jones and Bell were already there after qualifying.) The Amazon Prime Video broadcast reports that Brent Crews will relieve Christopher Bell during the first caution period today. As long as Bell takes the green flag, he will get credit for whatever points the No. 20 earns today. The Anduril 250 will be aired on the radio by the Motor Racing Network.
